Göteborg Horse Show Foundation

Göteborg Horse Show Foundation

For many years, the Göteborg Horse Show Foundation has awarded approximately SEK 300,000 annually in scholarships to elite-oriented juniors and young riders.

The purpose of the Göteborg Horse Show scholarship is to give more young riders the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and add competencies in areas that are crucial for continued development.

Following a pause in the scholarship program, a completely new structure has been introduced, identifying a number of focus areas. Applicants, together with their coach, are asked to specify which areas they wish to enhance or expand their knowledge in. In their application, they must also explain how they plan to use the scholarship to develop in those areas.

The scholarship is intended as an encouragement to learn more about the fundamentals of riding, the importance of the rider’s physical and mental abilities, as well as equine welfare and training physiology.

The identified focus areas are:

  • The fundamentals of riding

  • Sports psychology/mental training

  • Rider’s position

  • Nutrition and off-horse training

  • Horse’s training physiology

In addition, the target group has been broadened to include individuals aged 16 to 25, as well as clubs and regional federations. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year, and recipients are selected by a jury composed of representatives from the Gothenburg Horse Show and the Swedish Equestrian Federation.

The amount awarded to each recipient depends on what the applicant has applied for and how well thought-out their proposed plan is.

Eligibility criteria for applying to the Gothenburg Horse Show scholarship:

  • Individuals aged 16 to 25 who are active in any of the disciplines governed by the Swedish Equestrian Federation. Applicants must be making a declared and serious effort to reach the elite level, although no specific starting point is required.

  • Clubs and regional federations that are conducting development programs within the Equestrian Development Model* or implementing other educational initiatives within the specified focus areas aimed at the target group.
