Gothenburg welcomes home the FEI World Cup™ Finals 2027
FEI World Cup™ Finals in jumping, dressage, and vaulting are coming to Gothenburg and Scandinavium in 2027!
Gothenburg Horse Show and the FEI share a long history, and it is with pride and joy that Got Event once again has once again been entrusted with hosting the World Cup Finals in 2027.
"2027 also marks the 50th anniversary of the Gothenburg Horse Show, which makes this occasion extra special. This time, the finals will include not only jumping and dressage but also vaulting, a discipline that is growing in popularity in Sweden. As a strong player in the equestrian world, we feel a responsibility to continue contributing to the sustainable development of the sport - for riders, horses and audiences alike," says Lotta Nibell, CEO of Got Event.
Securing the World Cup Finals is no simple task. The application process began in autumn 2024 with the creation of a digital 3D model of Scandinavium in full finals setup. The complete bid was submitted to the FEI at the end of November, and the organization then visited Lausanne in February to present the application.
"It has been a long and exciting process. I am incredibly grateful to the entire team who worked on the bid and the support we've received from many sides along the way. Now, it just feels amazing to look forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary together with our audience, horses, and riders and to deliver magical World Cup Finals as a really nice gift to all our fans," says Erika Olsson, Event Director for Gothenburg Horse Show.
Gothenburg Horse Show and Got Event are part of the City of Gothenburg and help position the city on the international events map. The event's history, the passion of it's audience , and the love for horses and top-level sport have created a strong tradition. The World Cup Finals are a natural part of this effort and further strengthen the city's position as a global meeting place for equestrian sport.
"Bringing the World Cup Finals here is important for the destination, as they complement the annual Gothenburg Horse Show. Events like these not only solidify and enhance Gothenburg's position in equestrian sports but also help it to become a world-leading events city," says Magnus Hallberg, Deputy CEO and Event Manager at Göteborg & Co.
Swedish equestrian sports is experiencing a unique era with reigning World and European champions in jumping. In 2024, Sweden celebrated two major World Cup Final victories—Henrik von Eckermann in jumping and Patrik Kittel in dressage. Von Eckermann also held the number one world ranking for an impressive 33 months, and Swedish vaulting teams earned championship medals in both 2023 and 2024
Henrik von Eckermann has often said that it was at the World Cup competitions in Scandinavium that his dream of an equestrian career was born. The Swedish Equestrian Federation continously emphasizes the significance of the Gothenburg Horse Show, not only not only as an opportunity for Sweden’s top stars to compete in front of a home crowd but also as a platform for young riders and horses to experience international character and world-class atmosphere..
"Having World Cup events and finals on home soil offers invaluable opportunities both for the sport and for the audience. Over the years, Gothenburg Horse Show has playes a major role in the success of Swedish equestrian sport. It gives tomorrow’s stars a stepping stone into the world elite, while offering Swedish audiences the chance to witness equestrian sport at its very best. That’s why the triple World Cup Finals in 2027 are especially exciting—they can inspire the next generation and ensure Sweden remains at the forefront of the sport," says Sandra Ruuda, Chair of the Swedish Equestrian Federation.
The very first World Cup Final in jumping was held in Gothenburg in 1979, and the final has since returned 17 times. Gothenburg Horse Show and Scandinavium have earned the title "Home of the FEI World Cup™," awarded by the international federation, FEI.
"I’m incredibly happy that the World Cup Final is returning to where it all began 50 years ago. The fact that the Jumping World Cup has retained both its format and major importance to the sport over half a century clearly shows how unique this series is," says Tomas Torgersen, Show Director for the Gothenburg Horse Show.
The FEI World Cup™ Finals in dressage, jumping, and vaulting will take place in Gothenburg around Easter 2027. We look forward to welcoming the audience to Scandinavium for magical moments and unforgettable sport experiences
